Remarks & Notes |
Coal trains are mile-plus-long metal machines. Flood-loading coal silos are giant structures that tower over the surrounding landscape. Both of these human creations are utterly dwarfed by the massive thunderstorms spawned on hot summer afternoons in the plains, such as this one which had just concluded dumping 0.68" of rain and hail on Gillette inside of an hour and was now trundling southward through the Powder River Basin in search of more victims -- soon to include West Thunder Mine and the coal train being loaded there. |
