Grand Elk is the new player in town, taking over what remains of the NYC-PRR/PC/CR/NS operations of my youth. The train is approaching CP Gib, the switch that will lead to a connector eastward to the Amtrak line and Botsford Yard. This was configured during the early days of the Conrail era, combining much redundant trackage on the south side of town approaching BO Tower. This connector also allowed Conrail to abandon the old Airline, a NYC freight route that ran Three Rivers to Jackson, in spite of the extra 47 miles it added to the trip.
