NG/G16 Beyer-Garratt No.143 climbs steadily up the 1 in 60 grade, as it heads south through the Aberglaslyn Pass - where road, river, hiking trail and rail run side by side through the narrowing gorge of the Afon Glaslyn - on the newest section of the Welsh Highland Railway, from Beddgelert (seen in the distance) to Hafod-y-Llyn. This latest extension means that WHR trains now run 19½ miles from Caernarfon, up and over the foothills of Mount Snowdon, to a temporary run-round loop south of the Aberglaslyn Pass...
