Remarks & Notes
Not what one generally thinks of when they think of the Alaska Railroad, the APU spur is one of my personal favorite photo locations. This obscure little branch leads one mile off the ARR mainline to service a half dozen small industries and features the closest thing to street running to be found in Alaska. On this day the crew has their locomotive sandwiched between four cars as they tread carefully down the light rails back toward the mainline. This view looks railroad south along 1st Avenue near downtown. Note: photographed from public property.
