71000 Duke of Gloucester makes a magnificent site as it heads north past Culham with a railtour from Didcot. This was just after it had returned to the mainline for the first time since being withdrawn in 1962. It had been built as a one off prototype entering service in 1954, but was not an outstanding success. However, during restoration it was discovered that the chimney assembly had been wrongly designed, throttling the exhaust steam. This was rectified and in preservation, The Duke has finally shown what she was capable of
