| When the railway from Pontarlier to Neuchâtel was built (inaugurated 1860) it was intended to be an important international line from Paris to the Orient...so the roadbed was prepared for two tracks. Now there is much space for the passing of the "elefant" steamlocomotive through the 54 metre long La Loge tunnel in the Areuse gorge. |
