Remarks & Notes |
The PRR special down the Port Line in autumn '54 is moving under the wires. This view from the back window reveals a general store on the left and the car on the right has just cleared the crossing after waiting for the train. Thanks to Dan Rapak and Bill Seigford of the Harrisburg Chapter NRHS who helped ID this location as the quarry lead off PRR's Columbia Branch to J. E. Baker Company, which was/is headquartered in York, Pa. The building with the gasoline pump is the company store and Bill Mundorf was the company's storekeeper for many years. From this quarry the J. E. Baker Company supplied track ballast to many railroads in the U.S.A.
