An old shot from 1984. 141 006 waits in the evening in a bay platform at York with a service to Leeds, via Harrogate. The Class 141 was the first production model of the Pacer diesel multiple units.
Twenty of these units were built by Leyland, constructed mainly from Leyland National bus parts, in 1984. They were notoriously unreliable, but this improved after modification between 1988 and 1989. They were based mainly in and across West Yorkshire on routes radiating from Leeds, sponsored by West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, where they worked up until 1997 when they were replaced by Class 142s. Along with many other members of the class, after retirement from British Rail, this unit was sold to the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways.
