Remarks & Notes
A DIESEL on Mt. Washington?? Noooooo! Yes, folks, this 600 hp, one-of-a-kind cog locomotive could be a view into the future of the Mt. Washington Cog Railway. Custom-built in the railway's own shops, she has a John Deere tractor engine that burns bio-diesel. She makes the trip to the summit in just 48 minutes, burning a mere 18 gallons of fuel and requiring only one cab crewmember. Now in regular service on the line, she doesn't have to stop for water and she doesn't shower the customers with cinders. Steam enthusiasts, BE AFRAID....BE VERY AFRAID. The railroad has plans for at least 2 more of these critters. For a look at the other side of this locomotive, click here.
