| Remarks: NS #398 piled up 34 cars after the east end of the Beebe Creek bridge washed out after torrential rains over night. Fortunately, the crew escaped without injury, as the lead 4 engines and 34 cars passed over the bridge before the track collapsed. Five other trains had just crossed this bridge before #398 derailed. Ironically, #398 was going to be the last train to cross the bridge before the track was going to be inspected. For other shots of the derailment scene check out my RR Pictures Archive site. |
