| Remarks: Burlington Northern came up with a variety of paint and lettering schemes on their former CB&Q E-Units. Stainless steel side panels on some units prevented painting in these areas, so BN tried the solid silver example shown here. BN 9975 was sold for scrap on 8-19-74. |

That E8 plate under the engineer's window was patterned after the "9"-series identification plates EMD attached to the model series the builder introduced in 1954. Burlington liked the idea, and had such plates made for all its locomotive models, including GEs. The unusual practice ended with the BN merger. |
