The lovely big loco was originally designed for heavy freight. This was a member of the last class of steam locos built for British Railways. Here's a panned shot of it climbing to Summerseat at Burrs on the East Lancashire Railway this morning (21-5-08) with a mid week train. The safety valves are blowing, so the gradient is no problem with four coaches. I was the only one there on a sunny Wednesday morning. Not in Mitch's league, but I've taken worse. Oh, by the way, have a close look at the centre driving wheels - Hey Presto, no flanges! (How else would these long rigid locos get round tight bends).
Pace and pan shots of trains from on the ground or in the air. If you're not in the locomotive cab or on-board the train, it's the next best thing to being there.
