Remarks & Notes
You can’t tell by the freight cars showing in this photo but this train is PXSE, Perishable eXpress to Selkirk. This train originated in North Platte and would forward large blocks of UP and SP reefers to East Coast markets. This train was featured on the National Geographic trains special as the Salad Bowl Express. After the railroads fumbled the reefer traffic this train morphed into merchandise train NPSE and then Q390 under CSX. Today, the Q090 runs as a souped-up version of this train. Trailing units are CR SD40 # 6357 (ex PC 6104, PRR 6104) and CR U23B # 2784 (the former Lehigh Valley # 508). The train is running along the Mohawk River and New York State Barge Canal at Lock 13 in the Town of Mohawk, just east of Yosts.
