This is the opposite side of the shunt that my brother took Photo ID: 193819. Electric shunts were put in service on the Lake Erie docks replacing steamers to push strings of hopper cars onto the Hulett Unloaders to lessen the risk of fire caused by a spark or hot coal. 1 arm on each side (painted yellow) would drop down and push 2 strings of hoppers. The shoe mount for the 3rd rail can be seen just in front of the rear wheel. This loco is 2' gauge. |
