| Remarks: PRR had a fleet of rubber tired switchers, first built 1912, originally battery powered & later repowered with gasoline engines. They worked the dockside industries in Philly, Baltimore, & Jersey City. Caption info from Rob's Pennsy home page at Click here >Ansco color/color corrected in P/S |

Fascinating. |

I've heard of these before. They are essentially small cars or trucks that had a railcoad knuckle to connect to trains. The PRR used them because the curvature of the industrial spurs in the area was too tight for a switcher. |

Jack,
Thank you so much for sharing these gems with us! I`m really excited about the early color shots you and some of the other "Old Hands" have been posting, from an eara before I was even born(1957). I love this site, and the terrific photographers here.

Since I've been old enough to notice what I'm looking at (1995 or so) I've never seen anything like that :-) |
