Remarks: I used an 70-200 zoom lens set at 200mm to frame up this UP staker at Boca , CA, as it rounds the bend with fresh snow on the ground. Stack trains over Donner Pass in the snow, boy its a beautiful thing!

Remarks: From the I-80 Rest stop at Emigrant Gap, I was shooting my last shot of the day which was for the 2009 "A Day in North America" issue of Railroads Ill. The storm clouds from a passing storm parted and let the sun shine in just as this westbound UP trains rounds the bend. This was my last and best image of the day. This shot, nor any of the other shots I sent in made the cut, but I thought it was worthy of RP.

Remarks: The sun just peeked out in time for this UP Pacer stack train to be sun lit at Boca, CA. This is one of my first photos of an UP stack train battling Donner Pass, and its my favorite one of the day. I have been longing for UP to start running stacks over Donner, and the wait is finally over!

Remarks: Just after sun-down, with rain falling an UP mixed freight is working westbound deep in the Blues. The headlights of this GE C44ACTE are lighting up the forest. making for an unique low light image.

Remarks: Three Dash-9s lead a eastbound mixed frieght through Stevenson, WA on a cool fall evening. This is one of many scenic spots to photograph trains right along state HWY 14.

Remarks: With fall colors abound, a BNSF coal train heads west with a new SD70ace on the point. The new orange paint goes well with the autumn yellows of the Columbia River Gorge. The Gorge is a breathtaking area to shoot trains in, especially in autumn. This shot was taken from a old wooden bridge that is getting harder, and harder to find around these days

Remarks: Just after sunset, a short UP nine-car stack train is captured working through the s-cures north bound along the water at Steilacoom, WA. What a shot to end my very first day of rail fanning in the PNW. Thanks to Robert Scott, and Steve Carter for the great tour of the area!

Remarks: This UP stacker is working eastbound at Pulga in the Feather River Canyon. No, the trees on the hillside behind the train aren't turning fall colors, there was a wild land fire a year or so before this shot was taken. I think the burned trees gives the image an appearance of a fall scene.

Remarks: On a warm spring morning an Amtrak Capital train is heading westbound on the ageing bridge that spans the bay. Not long after this train passed, famed UP steamer 844 crossed the bridge headed for Oakland as well.

Remarks: A late westbound Amtrak Zephyr is crossing the massive bridge that spans the bay in Benicia. The clouds from a spring storm have just parted to let the setting sun out, to create a fant rainbow on the other side of the bay.

Remarks: On a beautiful summer morning, the A Christmas Carol train is on display at Sacramento. The train is on a countrywide tour for the Disney movie A Christmas Carol. This train drew a large crowd, with lines to view the inside of the train up to three hours long.

Remarks: After working in the BNSF yard in Bakersfield, CA for some time, this leaser has been tagged by vandals. As Graffiti becomes more of a common sight around US railroads, it is costing railroads hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up.

Remarks: Just after dark, an UP SD70ACe lights up the rocks along the Feather River deep in the canyon. This stack train is working eastbound headed for the windy city from Lathrop, CA.
