Remarks:Davis Depot. The depot at Davis California was originally built between 1913 and 1914, by the Southern Pacific Railroad. At almost one century old, this Spanish style depot is still in use by Amtrak and currently owned by the Union Pacific. Due to Davis, California being home to a large University (University of California at Davis), many people's preferred method of transportation is bicycle. In this photo, pedestrian bicycles are seen resting under the station lights. In a few short hours, their commuting owners will be arriving by train and pedaling their way toward the University.
Remarks:Hot August Night! A westbound train passes through the double reverse curve at Flaycasters Flat on the Union Pacific's Roseville Subdivision and illuminates the area surrounding the right of way as it approaches Truckee, California. Lights from Truckee illuminate the sky in front of the Sierra Mountains, and lights from Sacramento, California provide the back lighting for the ridgeline in the distance.
Remarks:Flangers in the snow. UP 600 leads the flanger set through the curves at Yuba Pass in the middle of a typical Donner snow storm. The crew is west bound, headed down to Colfax where they will then turn around and make another trip over the mountain, in an effort to keep the Roseville Subdivision open in the winter.
Remarks:A different view at Emigrant Gap. UP 8151 an SD9043MAC leads the heavy Roper to Roseville Manifest train down the Donner grade as it approaches Switch #9. The sky is a pinkish purple as evening sunlight reflects off of smoke from a fire in Yosemite, Ca. To the left, one can see the Lake Spaulding Dam and Reservoir.
Remarks:Gone but not Forgotten! Dust can bee seen filling the air, as an open door lets the morning light beam into the old snow shed that was once part of the original mainline built through Donner Pass by the Central Pacific Railroad.
