Morning fog begins to slowly break up, exposing the Seattle Skyline, as the Coast Starlight backs into Union Station to begin boarding passengers.
It is Amtrak's second day of operation as SP #3205 leads a Westbound Coast Starlight (then known as #13) thru Alviso on the northern edge of San Jose.

Amtrak's first summer as SP 3205 awaits the highball to leave SP's 16th St. station in Oakland with the Coast Starlight. Thirty-Six years later, the station and tower remain but all else is gone.
Amtrak #551 leads the way into San Jose as the Coast Starlight passes thru the now abandoned Newhall Yard. The white building on the left has given way to condos.
