SP8590 pulls an auto train thru the Mitchells. The SP8590 was rebuilt by MK in 1994. After being rebuilt most were assigned to coal service until the arrival of the AC4000s in 1995.

The Mitchell curves near the summit of Tennessee Pass. The sight was incredible! I can only imagine what it had been like to see huge L131 Articulated Steam Locomotives pulling this grade.....

UP8161 lifts coal up up the 2.4% East slope of Solider Summit. Pulling Gooseneck Curve is the toughest part of the assault. This train is destined for the huge Intermountain Power Project.
