Remarks: The first portion of a QR empty coal train remains stationary as a crew member walks back to check the rear of the train seen derailed in the distance. The rear eight wagons were derailed by a suspected heat buckle

Remarks: VIA 6448 is in the shop for new wheels after a minor derailment. The SD40-2 on the left is NREX 5619, the SD75i barely visible on the right is CN 5681 in for wreck repair, and the long hood door section on the right is from CN GP9RM 7271, which is getting a new engine after it's own threw two rods out of the block.

Remarks: We're on the scene of the Canadian Pacific derailment in north suburban Chicago wherein 18 cars from two freight trains derailed around 3:00 this afternoon. Here we see the cars that have fallen from the rail bridge and onto Shermer Road. From what I have read and heard, no one was seriously injured and nothing hazardous was spilled in the derailment.

Remarks: GP10's 401 and 406 sit on the siding at Altoona, Iowa a few days (June 30,1988) after the worst accident in IAIS's history. Five locomotives (309,401,406,470, and 471)were involved in the head on collision which killed two crew members. 401 suffered a bent frame and body damage and was later rebuilt. 406 caught fire and was later scrapped due to the significant amount of fire, frame, and body damage.

Remarks: This is the result of a serious sideswipe incident between a loaded aluminum hopper and something else. Not only did much of the coal spill from the gapping hole created by the collision, the loss of the vertical members (side ribs) on the car destroyed much of the structural integrity of the car, causing the center sill to buckle from the weight. Not a pretty sight.

Remarks: All morning I had been wondering why there was no traffic in the Tehachapis. This was what I found in Bakersfield. I don't know any details, but I figured since there were freight car trucks in front of the locomotive that it was a mid-train helper.

Remarks: Now we have new information about this crash, the steam locomotive with the number 3311 is an ex Florida East Coast 4-8-2 part of a group of FEC locomotives sold to the NdeM in 1946-1952 it is listed as having been retired in March 1956, this locomotive colliding head-on with a "Baldwin DR-12-8-1500 / 2". With an incredible symbolism that shows the transition from steam to diesel. We do not know who took the photo, or on what date this accident happened. Certainly something worth investigating. Thanks to Robert Hedgecock for the new info.

Remarks: N452 on it's side and on a 90 degree angle to the main line, having run into a fallen tree in the middle of the night some days earlier. Second unit N456 is still coupled behind, the cranes have already moved the passenger cars clear of the wreck. Surprisingly there were only minor injuries to crew and passengers
