Remarks: A loaded NS unit train exercises trackage rights on CSXT and rolls south approaching Dungannon, Virginia. The coaling tower and flat area to the left is all that remains of Miller Yard, once a busy interchange site between the Interstate and the Clinchfield. A hotel and four section houses were located trackside to the right.

Remarks: Great Western 'Castle' class 4-6-0 'Earl of Mount Edgecumbe' races through Warrington, heading for Carlisle, making a rare foray along the West Coast Main Line. These engines were famed for speed on London-Bristol expresses, and #5043 is doing its best to live up to its reputation, screaming defiance at the overhead wires.

Remarks: A quartet of 4-axle "heritage" power leads the empty Interbay garbage train through the Columbia Gorge. Despite being the normal power for over a decade on the garbage trains, a year ago it was tough to get a solid GP consist. SD40-2s ruled these trains in 2008 but even those have been displaced by the economy and lease returns. Now modern GE power commonly holds down the Roosevelts.

Remarks: Great Western 'Castle' class 4-6-0 'Earl of Mount Edgecumbe' roars around the curves as the engine gets ready to tackle the southbound climb to Shap Summit. Previous excursions with Great Western engines over the steep grades of the West Coast Main Line have not been happy experiences, but #5043 had no problems at all.
