I agree with your comments. While I do not approve of defacing railroad property and with so many rail cars being 'tagged' with tasteless graffiti, this locomotive is no different except...the graffiti was done well and respectable.

If nothing else this unit will attain pop culture stardom.

Unknown taggers made a better heritage unit than CSX could. This is leaps and bounds better than what CSX did for the units.

They threw away one of the most respected and recognizable corporate logos in America (as did BNSF, with the warbonnet). Just to be modern or cool or new or whatever. They could put the cat in the “C” of CSX and “kill two birds with one stone”. CSX is just C&O warmed over anyway.

Are we sure this is "tag"? If so, the taggers painted around warning sticker, left upper side of the nose and the "watch you step" stencil on the door. (not in view). Perhaps some guys fooling around in the paint shop?

I don't know of very many taggers that carry an arsenal of masking materials around when they tag a unit like this. It's usually a few cans of paint they have on hand. If I could paint a straight line or perfect circle like that with no masking materials, I'd be set for life at a body shop!
