This is an example of a modern railroad maintenance technician working on a piece of railroad equipment. He has his personal protective equipment on (PPE) - glasses, hard hat, gloves, and fall protection. Turn the hands of time back to the 1950's and I would dare to say that a steam era maintenance worker would most likely only have half of the PPE shown worn in your photo. In either era, it's neat to see what it takes to keep a steam locomotive operating!
