I saw this same scene on the E-L at Sterling, Ohio, one Sunday afternoon as the afternoon passenger train had four E-8s and four coaches heading west at speed. It wasn't like that every day but eventually it dwindled down to one engine and one coach before Amtrak took over.

That staircase looks like it was built to outlast everything else in the photo, including the rocks.

That is a really solid looking tower. On a separate note, it's incredible how many losing passenger runs railroads were forced to operate for so long a period before Amtrak abolished them in one fell swoop in 1971. Still, I'll take this over any Amtrak, anyday. A great scene.
