No. 47 is a perfect heritage locomotive. It can pull the typical consist and travel back and forth without turning with equal aplomb.

The last time it was under steam was in August, 1961 since it was on Friday, August 25th at 4:00 PM that ICC Inspector John D. Wilkie, ordered No. 47 out of service due to the lack of proper documentation. The popular railfan explanation for this is that the paper work was "lost in a fire." That is incorrect. For the first time the real explanation is available.

The explanation is in the new book "Steam Trains of Yesteryear: The Monadnock, Steamtown & Northern Story" by Rick Kfoury published by The Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society.
