Number 612 was one of five K4s that got changed into the K4sa class. The K4sa was different from the standard K4s locomotive due the addition of a front end throttle and her piston valves were increased from 12" to 15" (diameter). In their later years, the K4s class locomotives were used whenever the Pennsy wanted to test or to try new ideas for future locomotive construction. A lot of the innovative gadgets that were applied to the T1 class locomotives were first tried and experimented on the K4s locomotives. Nice photo!
