Nice profile view of a then 9 year old Nordco model 44, s/n 440008 spike driving machine connected to a self-propelled chemical tie plugging unit. CN 640-04 was built new in 1995. These spiking machines were run by two operators located between the workheads and the engine module, and a helper who loaded spikes from the grey spike cans into the chutes visible below the machine running number. Those colour coded fluid reservoirs (blue for hydraulic oil, and green for diesel fuel sure help prevent getting the wrong fluid in the wrong tank (most of the time).
