Last week I visited this tower and it is really in terrible shape. My grandfather worked here for years, retiring in the 60's. Not sure the date. I remember what a thrill it was to go to the tower with him and watch him at the telegraph and moving the big iron poles in the tower for the train tracks. Wonder why it couldn't be made a historical monument to perserve the history of the town as well as the railroad?

Unfortunately, there are probably two reasons why the tower won't be preserved. One is money, and the other is the condition of the tower. It's entirely possible that it has deteriorated to the point where it would be impossible to save it.
