Only recently did I learn about the BNSF(ATSF)/NS joint operation here, and wondered about the UP trackage rights. Does this indicate they were inherited from SP?

I believe SP had rights over BN to Chgo. and when UP/SP came about UP got rights over the Transcon. I don't think the Transcon routing was inherited, but a product of the mega-merger negotiations.
