Your picture brings back great family memories. Perhaps the last great train chase with my Grandfather and Father (both since passed) my Brother and our young sons (4 generations). We followed 611 down from Alexandria Virginia until picking up 1218 at Lynchburg. We then followed the doubleheader until Danville Virginia where we had to call it a day. Treasured memories, thanks for sharing.

I sooooo miss chasing this engine. just like 3985.1218 was a great fan trip engine to ride behind and photograph.

You're welcome, G.D. We started chasing in Calverton, VA- probably crossed your path somewhere down the line. I really miss the old NS steam specials.

I'll 2nd that on the 1218, CNW. I only saw the 3985 when it ran on the Clinchfield- hopefully we'll see it run again on the UP in the near future.
