That's sad. Even though it is essentially useless, it would be cool if this unit could be used as a NPCU/Slug.

That's what these basically were. About 15 years ago, UP converted these GE units to slugs and installed remote control units in them. They were intended for switching duties, coupled to switcher consists so the jobs could be done by remote control. The remotes the engineman operated were difficult to use, so after several months, the ones that I knew of in the Tulsa area were unhooked and sat in the yard for a long time. I am guessing they ended up at some of the major yards as switcher slugs and most likely not used for remote control units anymore.
