Wonderful shot, Jim, the first I've seen on St. John Street. Was this street running? If so, the borough obviously didn't plow that day. Or was it an alley with the track parallel to the road in close quarters? And why did they set the covered hopper off there?

At this time, St. John Street was an alley with the track parallel to the road in close quarters. The covered hopper was moved there by the WTSE 8525 SW1 coupled to the other end. The SW1 was uncoupled and run lite from there east across the West Branch of the Susquehanna River to the CR connection at Montandon to open up the snow-covered track so the covered hopper could be safely pushed to the connection. The SW1 returned to Lewisburg and was switched into the clear at the east end of a snow-covered runaround siding. CR 2233 was coupled up to NW 177492 covered hopper and pushed it to the connection at Montandon.

Thanks for the write-up, Jim. Interesting to see the two short lines working together. Did West Shore own the tracks out to Mifflinburg? I thought I saw pictures of the excursion train going out that way. Were they separate companies with common ownership?
