Ah, trains and towboats, two of my favorite things! According to info on Dick's Towboat Gallery page for the Janis R. Brewer it was built in 2009 in Panama City, Florida, has 4,000 horsepower, and is just a hair over 132 feet long. And according to web page for the builder, Eastern Shipbuilding Group, it was built for the Crouse Corporation, and according to Google search results, that's misspelled, it's the Crounse Corporation. Their website says they are headquartered in Paducah, Kentucky, a town with a railroad history! Company was begun in 1948 by a George P. Crounse, Sr. who was from Minnesota but had ended up working in Alabama. And then back to that misspelling of Crounse as Crouse, it turns out there is a Crouse-Hinds Company in the Onondaga area of New York which got its start in 1887 supplying headlights for trolley cars. From there they went on to supply traffic lights, airport lighting, and lighting for use on the Panama Canal. Pretty cool the stuff one can find just playing around in search engines at 6 a.m., eh.
