I recall seeing the "Green Train" numerous times as it passed through Columbia, SC on its way to the power plant at Eastover, SC.

Shamrock's eight SD40-2 were built to L&N spec and later went to BC Rail.

I sure remember seeing the light green O & W locomotives and coal cars on the KD Subdivision (Corbin, KY to Etowah, TN) as well as the L & N in the 1980's. It was kind of nice to see something else running up and down the line. The Binfield, TN siding was a good place to catch them. And to this day, Binfield is still a very good place. You can walk onto the wooden overhead bridge on Binfield Road and watch the CSX trains coming and going for a about a mile or so in both directions. Every now and again, there will three trains all at the same time at Binfield.

Ron Flanery wrote an article about the O & N for Trains magazine a number of years ago.
