Garrison Keillor had the story in on of his books about placing bets on a car left out on the ice to guess what day in spring it would sink. The story was an old guy has gone ice fishing one late winter day and lost the car. The message was that whenever you do something stupid in a small town you can be sure it is never forgotten. Sort of like the railroad, come to think of it.
