Did this train run in addition to the Night Owl or was it a replacement? Did it run via Springfield or Providence?

It ran in addition to the Night Owl, several hour later. Passengers were a definite afterthought and a single coach or two at most was the norm, with no food service. I believe that northbound #12 carried passengers through its entire existence, however southbound #13 was mail and express only in its later years. Initially both #12 and #13 ran via Providence, but in later years #13 was shifted to the Inland Route via Springfield to serve Amtrak's mail facility in that city.
