What a unique shot! I sure hope this line stays in service. It is in such a cool location and makes for some great shots like this one.

I suspect that it is a Fred (Flashing rear End Device). This train probably does numerous reverses, with someone on a radio at the far end communicating with the engineer in the Loco pictured here.
