Few years earlier we would ride our bikes to Franklin Park, IL and wait at tower B-12. Very often the Laker would be on the connecting track off the harbor where it would get on SOO trackage right at the tower. Quite a contrast as the UP streamline sections would roar by and then the Laker with heavy weight baggage, RPO and coaches would lumber by.

Those Es had a no-nonsense roar to them and the symphony here would have been unforgettable. I recall PRR E units unwinding beyond the restricted curve at Mifflin, PA and filling the river valley night with power for many minutes after a tuscan red fleet of cars smoothly passed, when the tradition was still in its autumn.
