JUST BEAUTIFUL - gets my vote for PCA! Would LOVE to have this image in a size about 2'x 3' in a polished stainless steel frame hanging on my office wall.

An interesting signal from the past. It marks the beginning of a short stretch of CTC between there and Watsonville Junction that back in the good old days facilitated the movement of as many as four long trains of reefers each night from the small yard at Salinas. It was a race against time because the days loadings had to be out of town and through San Jose before the commute rush started the next morning, or face long detays while the commute fleet ruled the rails. In the old days during the perishable season Salinas was busy with maybe six or seven engines going on duty to switch the sheds and make up the trains. Today the Salinas yard sits mostly quiet and with little or no activity when the replacements for 99 and 98 make their station stop. But the CTC motors on just because it is there.
