I believe you're correct on the turbo. The exhaust stacks are similar to what the MOP done when they removed turbo's from their GP-35's.
Regardless, it's pretty neat to see an SD-35 running around these days, albeit somewhat modified. The only thing better would be if the SD-9 had been simply updated and rebuilt instead of morphed into what it is now.
