Great shot of a sad episode in railroad history Joe. However - in reply to your comment about the motorists in the passing cars casting a glance with no idea what kind of history they were witnessing... Well, those motorists can't see the train due to the 12 foot high sound / noise reducing barrier walls lining the track and highway. Unless those walls are made with slats that are about one inch apart, there is no way they can see the train. I should know as there are a couple of lines here where I live that the railroads or Dept. of Transportation have put up these sound / noise reducing barriers along the highway, and along the CSX Mainline, and when a train is passing, you can't see it - just the tops of the locomotives as they pass.

The fence shown here is just that, a fence, to keep passing cars and pedestrians out; not a sound barrier.
