PRR,PC & Amtrak have always called the Northeast Corridor East & West on the timetable. East is toward NYC from Washington DC. West is toward Washington DC from NYC.

Nice scene documenting the ongoing "New Jersey High-Speed Rail Improvement Project". Thanks for posting and keeping those interested up to date! As for the NEC and when and where for North, East, West, or South... I believe dating to the PRR days, the line ran East to West (New York to Harrisburg) and North to South - from Philadelphia to Washington DC.

Boston is more east than north of Washington. Through New Jersey, the direction tends to be northeast and east. There are no sections that run due north.
