Ah, to relive the days when the Chessie cats were on the prowl. WM or Chessie, still a great photo. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some memories of my childhood!

What a difference (almost) 39 years make. While the Western Maryland lettering is still evident on that bridge--over Rock Creek just east of town--the shot is now completely obscured by tree growth even in the winter months. On June 26, 1863, the covered bridge that then carried the railroad over Rock Creek here was burned by Confederate raiders who took a boxcar or two, pushed them onto the bridge, and set them alight. The bridge was promptly rebuilt after the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place a week later.
