Opekila is on the Western of Alabama - a operating partner of the Georgia Railroad whose primary main route was from Augusta to Atlanta. WoA operated from Atlanta to Montgomery through Opelika.

I labeled this as 'Georgia Railroad' because GARR 1028 was focus of photo. If I had posted this when I first joined RP, I would have used WofA, as was my practice at the time. However, that practice resulted in emails suggesting that though my labeling was technically correct, it would be more helpful to 'searchers' if I used rr name of whatever was primary focus of picture. Note that I included WofA train numbers in label and caption. BTW, Atlanta & West Point Railroad runs Atlanta to West Point, while Western Railway of Alabama runs West Point to Selma.

Always a difficult issue as to how to categorise shots for these three railroads which operated as a group. Their motive power did not trespass offline (outside of the three railroads) much if at all apparently, until the late 1970s, but I think you could see A&WP and WofA power on the Georgia and vice versa.
