The rebuilt units were GP9's. This picture shows why railfanning was a lot more interesting back in the 1960's into the 1980's.

My very first cab ride was on MILW 963 - it was working the industries in Red Wing, MN and I was a kid hanging around the depot with a friend watching the scene when they stopped in front of us and asked if we'd like to ride along as they worked.

Terrific photo. I miss living in the Twin Cities. There were multiple fun places to watch trains.
