Beautiful train. No wonder so many people loved the Erie Lackawanna.

The eastbound (south in the photo) morning EL departure from Chicago was train 6, The Lake Cities. It ran in daylight on the west end, overnight on the east end, arriving in Hoboken early the following morning. Interesting in that it is carrying both a diner and a sleeper behind the two coaches. The sleeper was soon to be relegated to a Hoboken to Youngstown assignment, and the diner, Hoboken to Huntington, Indiana, leaving train 6 (and its westbound counterpart) with only baggage-express and coach service into and out of Chicago.

A matched trainset - always a treat to see.
