She's a beauty in black with white tires. Visited her a few years ago in the new "shed" and also saw SP4449 in pieces during her inspection. Magnificent machine!

I hope SP&S 700 gets another chance to run free. In my view, it looks better / more like a proper steam locomotive than SP 4449, or for that matter MILW 261, UP 844 (when it has the elephant ears in place), or NW 611. While discussing 4-8-4s, what I'd REALLY like to see is NW 611 modified from class J to class J-1, i.e., the earlier wartime production configuration without the streamlining. Can you be a steam Luddite? Maybe I am one.
