I was able to trace several parts of the new line under construction on Google Earth. It diverges from the existing line on the eastern end of the project here: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.9595585,8.1377846,402m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en I could not discern the other (western) end. Seems possible it may link up with the old line inside an existing tunnel. Very interesting although as you say no more scenery.

Hi Peter Your location is correct as is the conclusion about the western end of the new line. It connects inside a tunnel to a already rebuilt part of the line (replaced some years ago). It connects in this location: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.8629526,7.967366,765m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en You see the current connection line from the old to the new line and also the previous already replaced line there. Problem ist with the existing rack: there is no space to double the tracks. In addition it is curved and has low speeds. But the view will never be the same again...
