Wondering when the (obvious) fourth track was torn up through here, and what the motivation was...

There definitely seems to be room for a 4th track. In the Wikipedia article about the PRR K4, there's a 1944 photo taken at Aberdeen, a couple of miles north, and there's only 3 tracks in the photo, so I'm guessing that if there was a 4th track, it must have been before WWII.

As someone that collects locomotive air horns I count myself lucky to have a set of Metroliner horns. I have one of only a few complete sets that I know of. A rather shrill sound indeed!
