As I recall, the Santa Fe was using numbered trains at the time, and this was likely KCEP's predecessor. Sorry, but I can't determine what number this train is.

Depending on the priority, assuming your guess at which train is right, I believe it would be a 387 train or a 397 train, the "3" being for Kansas City, the "8" or "9" being the train type (8 and 9 being for dedicated TOFC/COFC trains, with 9 being the highest priority), and the "7" representing Texas/New Mexico/Arizona destinations.

Nope, as Doug correctly pointed out, ATSF was using its 3 digit numeric train symbols back then, not the 5 letter train symbols with 1 letter "train type" followed by "dash" followed by two letter "origin" and two letter "destination" to which you refer. Those came later.
